在「捏地」中,作品通常因現地的水流與之後坑燒的火流而產生造型,然而在這些作品被移地展出時,總讓我有一種沒失了魂魄的感覺,而且每塊地都能燒出作品也很神奇,所以很明顯那份消失的魂魄肯定是某些居住在作品中的土地精靈或水火精獸被留在土地。
所以這次「野燒穴居民」企圖利用「捏地」的中小型雕塑內含的火流通道曲線為發想,製作出原本可能生存在火流通道中甚至是地層之中的野燒穴居民們。
In the process of "kneading the earth" (Nie-Di), the shapes of my works are often formed by the natural flow of water within the local soil and the fire currents during pit firing. However, when these pieces are moved to an exhibition space, I often feel as though they have lost their souls. It is fascinating how every piece of land can produce unique works through firing, which leads me to believe that the vanished soul must be the earth spirits or fire-and-water beasts—mystical beings once dwelling within the artwork, now left behind in the land.
This time, with "Wild-Fired Pit Dwellers", I aim to create sculptures inspired by the winding curves of fire channels that form within small to medium-sized pieces during the "kneading the earth" process. These dwellers of the wild-fired pits represent the mythical beings that may have once existed within the fiery pathways or deep beneath the earth’s layers.

1989生,2024於台南藝術大學應用藝術所陶瓷組畢,創作多關注於在各類土地上重新建立陶瓷實驗場以及農之於土地的關係,將這個行為命名為「捏地」,「捏地」指隨機挑選土地,開始在土地上引流水、配製不同地層土、踏查週邊地域構思燒製型態等...建立屬於這塊土地的實驗場,也藉周遭環境發想「地」的形狀,將其燒成由土地生長出來的雕塑,「捏地」計畫目前執行過七處。

Born in 1989, Chen Wei-Hsuan graduated from the Tainan National University of the Arts, Department of Applied Arts, Ceramics Program, in 2024. His artistic practice focuses on re-establishing ceramic experimental sites on various types of land and exploring the relationship between agriculture and the earth. He refers to this creative process as "Kneading the Earth" (Nie-Di).
"Kneading the Earth" is an artistic practice where Chen selects a piece of land at random and begins to interact with it—channeling water, blending clays from different soil layers, and surveying the surrounding environment to conceptualize firing methods and forms. Through this process, he transforms each site into a unique experimental ground, drawing inspiration from the landscape to shape forms that emerge as sculptures “grown” from the earth itself.
To date, Chen has carried out his "Kneading the Earth" projects at seven different sites, each time allowing the land to guide his creation and embodying the dialogue between earth, clay, and fire.
